5 of my favorite hikes less than an hour from denver

I am always looking for new trails to explore! My husband and I have lived in Colorado for a little over 5 years at this point and feel like we’ve barely scratched the surface of the beauty that is our home. Although the exploring is never done, this is my current list of go-to hiking trails that are around an hour or less from Denver, not too difficult, and have great views.

Depending on the time of year, trailheads can be in so many different conditions. To check out the recent conditions of trails, I always use the All Trails App. It’s a great way to keep track of the hikes you have already completed, browse new ones, and read comments from other hikers to get recommendations.

Mount Falcon Lookout Trail

This trailhead is easy to get to from Denver, is good terrain for dogs (this is a favorite to take Lola on), and has plenty of great views!

Forgotten Valley at Golden Gate State Park

My friend Chelsa turned me onto this trail, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the trailheads in Golden Gate State Park. There’s a little porch swing near the lake that makes for a great spot to pack a lunch and relax!

Brainard Lake via Waldrop and Ski Trail

If you’re looking to get near some water, Brainard Lake is just outside of Nederland/Boulder. It’s likely to have some snow, but the views of the mountains over the lake is so grounding.

Green Mountain and Hayden Trail Loop

This is a loop trail just outside of Denver so if you are visiting and don’t have a car, you could grab an Uber here to catch some great views of the skyline. If I just need to get outside and don’t have much time, I’ll head to Lakewood to get above the city and out of my head.

Saint Mary’s Glacier

This hike is a stunner if you’re looking for somewhere to hike to the top, hang out for a bit, and enjoy the views. I’d go here May – early October without hiking boots (the snow can require boots with better traction). It’s an hour and 10 minutes from Denver so it’s a bit farther, but a great hike and worth it!
