trader joe’s broccoli beef
trader joe’s is my go to for takeout inspired staples. Pair shelf stable sauces with ingredients you can keep in freezer for a rainy day? I’m there!!!
An essential staple in this recipe is arrowroot powder. It’s very similar to cornstarch, when mixed with water and added to a sauce it thickens and gives you that saucy takeout taste.

Ingredients
Scale
- 2 bags frozen broccoli florets
- shaved beef
- white rice
for the sauce:
- 4 tbsp coconut aminos or soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp chili flakes/oil or sriracha (less if you don’t like spice)
- 1 tbsp honey
- 4–10 cloves of minced garlic (I like a lot of garlic, ok!!!)
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tbsp arrowroot powder
Instructions
- mix the sauce together and prepare your rice. I like to do this ahead of time so when it comes to dinner time it’s just a throw and go!
- get a wok or large pan hot, drizzle with oil, and add broccoli.
- add about 1/4 cup of water and cover for a few minutes. remove from the pan when broccoli is bright green.
- in the same pan, add the beef and don’t touch it for a few minutes (the edges will start to crisp up).
- give it a toss and let cook for about a minute more before adding in the sauce and broccoli. the beef shouldn’t be on the heat alone very long as it will cook quickly!
- mix arrowroot powder with 1/4 cup of water and mix well.
- pour into the sauce, stirring everything together. the longer the sauce sits on the heat, the thicker it will be. stay close! and stir.
- serve with white rice and enjoy!
