how i make coffee at home

One of the most popular topics in my DMs is coffee! How do I make it, what Nespresso pods do I love, and where to find the best frother.

This post has all of the latest related to my at home coffee routine. What kind of coffee are you making at home?!

What machines do you have?

+ Nespresso Vertuo (exact bundle with frother linked below)

+ Chemex Pour Over

Additional ‘gadgets’:

+ Chemex Filters

+ Burr Grinder – for grinding beans at home. If you don’t want to buy a grinder, make sure you buy grounds instead of beans!

+  Food Scale

+ Electric Kettle

Where can you buy Nespresso pods? Which your favorite?

Nespresso’s website or their stores (check the locator to see if there’s one near you). If you’re in Denver, the closest pickup is in Park Meadows Mall. I’ve tried to order the pods on Amazon but they were sketchy… I recommend buying pods directly from Nespresso.

My Favorite Pods:

+ vanilla custard pie

+ mexico

+ any seasonal flavors (pumpkin spice cake in the fall, etc)

+ caramel cookie

+ ice leggero

Shots:

+ bianco forte

+ kona hawaii blend (I think it was seasonal it’s not always available)

Do you like the pods? They seem expensive?

I love them. There are 8 oz pours and traditional 3 oz espresso shots. I usually go for the coffees and mix in a steamed nut milk for a latte. In replacement of buying lattes out at coffeehouses, this is a much more affordable alternative for me. If you like lattes, you will definitely get used to having coffee at home with Nespresso.

Are they recyclable?

Yes! Nespresso provides prepaid shipping bags to fill and return via the mail when it gets full. I keep mine under the sink.

Is the Nespresso frother worth it?

YES. Get the bundle if you are in the market. The frother retails for almost as much as the bundle itself with getting the whole machine and sometimes even bonus coffee pods. It’s the best frother I’ve used and I feel like most people I see on IG who know what they are doing have it too ? . It has both a cold foam and hot foam option. Get it!!!

How do you brew coffee in the Chemex?

My cousins Mike and Jenna are v into pour over and gave me a lot of tips to start out. I follow tutorials like this one and experiment with different beans, but I would say stick to Chemex filters. Everywhere I’ve read online and my cousin Mike himself swears by using their specific filters.

The reusable filters are a nice thought, even for myself and family who live as sustainably as possible, but the Chemex brand filters help with the integrity of the coffee. In my opinion if you’re spending the time to hand brew your own coffee, you want it to be luxurious, so it’s worth it.

I follow the basic formula – 28g of beans is ~ 2 cups x 18 (idk ask the guides) = 720 g of boiling water

I’ve read that a smart kettle is the best for an overall *perfect* cup, but I have a basic electric kettle that works just fine.

I am always trying new things and definetly love the option between brewing a regular pot and lattes at home – what do I need to try next?
